Good evening. The staff of Powers Lake School is excited to get started next week. A couple things to fill you in on before next week. 1. Each student should have a fillable water bottle. We will have the filling stations turned on but not the regular drinking fountains. 2. We ask the all students have a face covering available. Masks, gators and face shields are all acceptable. Masks are not required except on the bus to start the year but there may be instances throughout the day when students may need one. 3. On the first day of school we are asking that parents do their best to remain outside the school. In order to come in, you will have to have your temperature taken and answer several question to assure you are healthy. We will allow parents of kindergarten students to drop their student off in the classroom. All other students being dropped off should be dropped off and enter through the West door. Again we know that this may be an inconvenience, but we appreciate your cooperation and a positive attitude. Throughout this process our community can “adapt, and thrive!”
Good morning. Here is some information about bussing to start off the school year. Our bus routes will run similar to last year. Each bus will need to have a seating chart and the students must sit in that seat before and after school. Only children from the same household will be allowed to sit together in one seat. All students and drivers will be required to wear face coverings while on the bus. Drivers will take temperatures of students before they go to their seat. If the student has a fever of 100.4 or higher they will be required to stay home. We also ask that there be no snacks eaten on the bus in the morning or after school as well. We will not be picking up town kids to start the year, and we will not be able to add kids to routes each day. If you have ridden the bus before and your situation has changed please contact the school and let us know. We know that this may be an inconvenience for some of you but we appreciate your cooperation and look forward to having the students back in school.

Tune in tomorrow @ 3:30 for the Governor’s announcement for school in the fall. https://www.thedickinsonpress.com/news/education/6573005-ND-governor-may-announce-fall-school-guidelines-Tuesday
In March 2019, Governor Burgum closed schools for in-person instruction due to concerns about COVID-19. He directed schools to serve their students via distance learning “until further notice”. The Governor amended his order on June 1st to allow schools to have summer school and to provide daycare as long as it was in groups of 15 or less. We are in frequent contact with the ND Department of Public Instruction and the Governor’s Office trying to find out what schools will be allowed to do in August. At this time, we do not know if students will be allowed to return. If they are allowed to return, will class-size caps and social distancing guidelines be in place? Will schools still have the authority to offer distance learning classes to our students who have been identified as high risk by a medical-professional? These are just a few of the many questions that we are waiting for answers. It is our hope that updated ND K-12 Smart Restart Guidance that we need to follow will be released by Friday, July 17th. Once those guidelines are released we will share the educational plan for this fall. Please pay attention to Governor Burgum's address next week as information regarding K-12 education should be released at that time. We know how difficult this uncertainty is for many of you. Rest assured that as soon as we have guidance from the state, we will communicate our plan. If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me @ 701-500-3115. Mr. John Gruenberg

Due to COVID-19, the Powers Lake School District wants to provide a safe environment to place your vote for the Powers Lake School Board. We are planning to run the election for school board with absentee ballot. If you have completed the absentee ballot form on the county level, you should receive a ballot in the mail from us. Please make sure that you postmark this ballot by June 9th. There is a ballot box available for drop off in the school entrance which is open from 6 am to 6 pm on weekdays and will be removed at 5 pm on June 8th, 2020. We can give you an absentee ballot, but you must complete the application form as that is how we determine who voted and that the votes are counted correctly. Those forms are also available in the office and by the ballot box. If you have received a ballot from us, but haven’t filled out the application form, your ballot may not be counted. So please complete the form and turn it into our office.
